W. Wayne robotics team wins excellence award

CAMBRIDGE CITY — A robotics team from Western Wayne Elementary School qualified for the state robotics meet by winning the top award in a tournament at Liberty.

Western Wayne took three teams to Liberty to compete in a VEX IQ robotics tournament on Feb. 3. These teams worked together with some of the 27 other teams for an opportunity to qualify for the state robotics meet.

One team qualified for the finals and finished as the seventh team overall. This team consisted of Damien McClain, Drake Waddell, Ben Bates, Joey Thompson, Greydee DeGuira and Justin Driskill.

Another Western Wayne team won the Excellence Award. This award automatically qualifies this team for the state meet at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis on March 10. The team that won this award consists of Fisher Brown, Clayton Vickers, Oliver Webb, Sam Fields, Sam Bogue, Brayden Munchel, Aidan Munchel, Carson Hawk, Landon Strait, Gavin Lowe, and Carl Vickers.

The Excellence Award is the highest award presented in the VEX IQ programs. The recipient of this award is a team that exemplifies overall excellence in building a high quality robotics program. This team excels in many areas and is a shining example of dedication, devotion, hard work and teamwork.
