Lowell P. Market

Lowell P. Market, age 84, of Brookville, lost his battle with cancer Jan. 8, 2018 at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born Oct. 14, 1933 in Milton, Ind., to William and Mary (Seffrin) Market. He married his wife, the former JoAnn Tincher, on Oct. 14, 1989 and she survives.

He graduated from Milton High School in 1951, and then served in the United States Army from 1954 to 1956, and was stationed in Alaska for one and a half years.

Lowell moved to Brookville, Ind., in 1956, and sold bottle gas for 15 years. He then went to work for the U.S. Postal Service for 31 years. He was Clerk-Treasurer for the Town of Brookville for four years, and spent four years on Franklin County Council. He was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Brookville, the Bernard Hurst Post #77 of the American Legion, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles #1129 of Brookville.

He enjoyed watching his grandsons play sports, and he liked to travel, having visited 49 states. His favorite vacation destination was Holden Beach, N.C. He was also an avid reader and enjoyed crossword puzzles.

Besides his loving wife of over 28 years, JoAnn, survivors include two sons, Paul Market of Brookville, Ind., and Ron Market of Blakeslee, Pa.; his daughter, Beth Jewell of Brookville, Ind.; two grandsons, Blake Jewell and Zachary Jewell; and son-in-law, Rob Jewell of Brookville; one brother, Stanley Market of Milton, Ind.; and a sister Helen Cornet of Carmel, Ind.; four cousins and several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends may visit from 4 until 7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 11, 2018 at Phillips & Meyers Funeral Home, 1025 Franklin Ave., Brookville, where the rosary will be recited at 7 p.m.

The Very Rev. Sean R. Danda and Rev. Mike Holman will officiate the Funeral Services on Friday, Jan. 12, 2018, 10 a.m. at Phillips & Meyers Funeral Home. Burial with full military graveside honors by the Bernard Hurst Post #77 of the American Legion will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery in Brookville.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Brookville Volunteer Fire Department or the Salvation Army.
