The temperatures might be back on the rise in recent days, but that doesn’t mean that Fall isn’t on the way.

One need only to take a quick glance at the Connersville High School calendar to verify that.

• The Connersville girls golf team already has several meets under their belts, as the team has competed in three invitational meets (Richmond, Union County, Whiteland) and participated in its first dual on Tuesday, traveling to Eastern Indiana Athletic Conference foe Batesville (results not available at press time).

The Lady Spartans will open the home portion of their schedule on Thursday, entertaining Yorktown at Willowbrook Country Club at 5 p.m.

The to teams are no strangers to one another, as they met several times in summer league play at Cambridge City.

The Connersville girls will open their regular season on Monday, when the team travels to New Palestine. The Lady Spartans are scheduled for their first home match on Thursday, Aug. 23, when the play host to EIAC opponent Greensburg.

• Coming off their Fan Fest appearance on Saturday, the Connersville High School football team is turning its focus to its annual scrimmage, slated for 7 p.m. Friday night inside the CHS stadium. For a fourth straight year, the Spartans will face off with Class 3A Monrovia. State champions in 2015, the Bulldogs are coming off a 4-6 record last season.

The Spartan gridders open their regular season one week later, as the team hosts Richmond on Friday, Aug. 17 at 7 p.m. Last season, CHS defeated the Red Devils on the road, 22-16 in overtime.

CHS will return for its home opener one week later, taking on East Central in and EIAC battle. That game will be the start of a four-game homestand, the Spartans also hosting Union County (Aug. 25), Wapahani (Aug. 30) and South Dearborn (Sept. 1) during that stretch.

• Their female counterparts will also open the season against New Castle on Tuesday, but in this case, the game will be played at home, starting at 5:30 p.m.

Two days later, Connersville will travel to Richmond for a tilt with the Lady Red Devils, before returning home on Saturday, Aug. 18 for a match against Triton Central High School.

The Spartan boys will follow that with a conference tilt with Batesville, at CHS on Thursday, Aug. 16. That is also set for a 5 p.m. start. On Saturday, Aug. 18 the Connersville unit will host its own invitational meet on the Spartan courts.
