Men starting at Ivy Tech may attend summer program

By BRANDON TOWNSEND - btownsend@newsexaminer.com

Incoming male students preparing to start classes at Ivy Tech Community College may participate in the Male Summer Bridge Progam in Richmond. Men preparing to start classes at the Connersville campus amay attend.

The program’s purpose is to help new or transfer students build confidence about starting classes and prepare for the upcoming semester. Incoming students will be introduced to advisors, assisted with financial aid issues, informed about programs and resources available at Ivy Tech and connected with instructors and other incoming students.

The event is open exclusively to males because males have a higher drop out rate nationally than females. “We see female students persisting here,” said Toure Conley, director of diversity. “Males are dropping out at a considerable rate.”

The registration deadline for the program is Monday, July 9. The program will be at the Richmond campus, 2357 Chester Blvd. from 8:30 a.m.-noon Thursday, July 12 or 5:30-9 p.m. Monday, July 16.

To register, contact Conley at 765-966-2656 ext. 1224, or tconley18@ivytech.edu.
